| NEW: Rapper's role in Showtime movie is for real Friday, February 11, 2005 (SF Chronicle) Rapper's role in Showtime movie is for real Peter Hartlaub, Chronicle Pop Culture Critic "S.F. stands for San Francisco/True that's a fact G/You can call it what you want/But for these gangstas they're Sucka Free." -- Rappin 4-Tay. (continued) 4TAY puts S.F. rap on the map SPECIAL TO THE EXAMINER He's turned a rough background into gold ANTHONY FORTE came from the Western Addition, and he wanted to put San Francisco on the map in the world of rap. It didn't take long for Rappin' 4Tay, - as he's known to his fans - to do the deed. His best-selling album, "Don't Fight the Feelin,' " won him the Bammy Award for best urban / contemporary artist...and his music is heard on the rap-infused soundtrack of "Dangerous Minds," the movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer. RAPPIN' 4TAY 4 THE HARD WAY NOO TRYBE REVIEWED ON DAVEY D'S HIP-HOP CORNER A Strong LP From 4Tay Bay Area Flava At It's Best This is definitely a strong album from one of the Bay Area's hip hop pioneers..Rappin' 4Tay. He's been doing this since the early 80s.. While Too Short was putting things down across the Bay in Oakland.. 4Tay was doing the same thing in San Francisco.. 4Tay's rise to the top was a lot harder for him then it was for Too Short..(continue...) Rappin 4Tay Off Parole REVIEWED BY DAVEY D ON DAVEY D'S HIP-HOP CORNER For folks who don't know Rappin' 4Tay is one of the Godfathers for San Francisco's rap scene. When Too Short was across the Bay slangin' rap tapes, 4Tay was over in the city trying hard to break the stereotype that had unduly effected SF rap artists(continue...) Rappin 4Tay Off Parole (Review) REVIEWED BY EL ON DAVEY D'S HIP-HOP CORNER 4Tay, however, is the most unique of all the Bay Area kings. Why? Because he's one of the only Rappers who try to pose as your loving uncle who'll gladly tutor you with your math homework, but still won't hesitate to set you up with a hooker half-priced. Tupac Shakur Interview April 19, 1996 on KMEL Radio Q: Pac you gave a lot of love back to some Bay Area artist like E-40, Rappin' 4Tay, Dru Down and the whole crew...talk about what made you decide to work with them A: Because I can't always be in the Bay. I know how the Bay is. The Bay is the type of place where if you ain't there they're gonna talk about you. I wanted them to know that I love you, I feel you and I'm gonna represent for you. I know I gotta a certain amount of acclaim so I bring the Bay with me... I know E-40 is what I was when I was with Digital Underground. He is the Bay right now ..him and 4Tay. So I get them on my album to represent the Bay. It shows we still have love and we're still all good. By us being representatives we bring the Bay where ever we go.. Rappin' 4Tay has always been raw to me and I like his style. When I was in jail I used to always listen to stuff so when I got out we clicked and did the song. Now he's in jail and I gotta do what he did for me. When I was in jail he used to send out shout outs and show support, so now I support 4Tay. Everybody pray for him and send letters. I hope the brother gets out of jail as soon as possible.. [Rappin' 4Tay was released in July '96]. You know its a struggle for every young Black man... You know how it is only God can judge us. BAMMIES: Even the big finale jam was a dud Craig Marine, OF THE EXAMINER STAFF Monday, March 13, 1995 …There were outstanding urban / contemporary album winners Rappin 4Tay, one of whose members gave the night's most honest acceptance speech, thanking the Lord and "our fans - without you there would be no sales."..
